Centre Pompidou Closed Until 2030: Where to See Its Collection During the €262 Million Renovation
If Paris is on your list for the next few years, cross one thing off. The Centre Pompidou is shut. Its modern art collection closed to the public on March 10 2025, and the whole building followed on September 22 2025. The plan is to reopen in 2030.
The renovation costs about €262 million. Preparatory works started in January 2026 and the main construction begins this autumn. The architects are Moreau Kusunoki with Frida Escobedo's studio and AIA, and the brief is restraint: strip out asbestos, fix the energy bill, improve access, and leave Piano and Rogers's building looking like itself.

This is the building as most people remember it. Steel frame on the outside, the escalator tube climbing the front, and on this day, blue and yellow inflatable sculptures on the piazza. Before the closure it drew about 4 million visitors a year. Its collection runs to about 150,000 works.
Where the art went
The Pompidou is closed. Its art isn't. Over the next five years you can find it in several places.
The Grand Palais hosts around four Pompidou exhibitions a year. The Pompidou's public library moved to the Lumière building in Bercy in August 2025. Centre Pompidou-Metz, the regional sister museum, is running a large collection show, "Dimanche sans fin", from May 2025 to February 2027 with loans from Paris. Abroad, there are Pompidou outposts in Málaga and Shanghai, and in June 2026 a new one opened in Seoul, the Centre Pompidou Hanwha, in the 63 Building on Yeouido. Brussels is next.
On the piazza itself, a small project space called Maison Pompidou opened in February 2026 in the former Atelier Brancusi.
What this means for a Paris trip
Your modern art options in Paris are still huge. The Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris and the Palais de Tokyo sit side by side, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is out in the Bois de Boulogne, the Orangerie covers the turn of the century, and the Bourse de Commerce has the Pinault collection. The Pompidou closure mostly hurts those who wanted the view from the top floor. There isn't a replacement for that one.
The Stravinsky fountain next door, restored in 2023, is the free consolation. Check whether it's reachable before you plan around it, as the works will change access around the site.
